When Good Men Do Nothing, by Wayne Greeson

When Good Men Do Nothing, by Wayne Greeson: "“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke)

So much of the history of the struggle between good and evil can be explained by Edmund Burke's observation. Time and again those who profess to be good seem to clearly outnumber those who are evil, yet those who are evil seem to prevail far too often. Seldom is it the numbers that determine the outcome, but whether those who claim to be good men are willing to stand up and fight for what they know to be right. There are numerous examples of this sad and awful scenario being played out over and over again in the scriptures."

Wired 11.09: PowerPoint Is Evil

Wired 11.09: PowerPoint Is Evil: "Power Corrupts.
PowerPoint Corrupts Absolutely.

By Edward Tufte

Imagine a widely used and expensive prescription drug that promised to make us beautiful but didn't. Instead the drug had frequent, serious side effects: It induced stupidity, turned everyone into bores, wasted time, and degraded the quality and credibility of communication. These side effects would rightly lead to a worldwide product recall.

Yet slideware -computer programs for presentations -is everywhere: in corporate America, in government bureaucracies, even in our schools. Several hundred million copies of Microsoft PowerPoint are churning out trillions of slides each year. Slideware may help speakers outline their talks, but convenience for the speaker can be punishing to both content and audience. The standard PowerPoint presentation elevates format over content, betraying an attitude of commercialism that turns everything into a sales pitch."

Evil Corporations: Kajima, Japan

First out in our coverage of Evil corporations are the Japanese constructionfirm Kajima.

Blood, Bribes & Brutality: "Kajima, the world's second-largest construction firm (and developer of the New Otani Hotel in Los Angeles) is headquartered behind formidable iron gates in Tokyo's once-bawdy Akasaka district. The chaste whiteness of the Kajima skyscraper belies a reputation for bribery and bid-rigging that has kept the corporation under repeated criminal indictment since the late 1980s. (An indiscreet 1994 poll of Kajima's own employees found that 88 percent agreed with the proposition that the company was 'prone to corruption.')

Fifty years ago, however, Kajima was not just passing fat envelopes of 5,000-yen notes to corrupt Diet members and former government ministers of construction. It was running a full-fledged slave-labor camp at the Hanaoka copper mine in Akita Prefecture.

In 1944 the Japanese empire had sent there 1,000 Chinese peasants and P.O.W.s (including captured Communist guerrillas) to undertake the dangerous work of diverting a river next to the mine. It gave Kajima carte blanche to 'squeeze them like a damp towel until not one drop remains.'

By March of 1945 the emaciated and exhausted Chinese were dying at the rate of thirty per week.

'One day,' according to Geng's published memoir, 'one of our comrades, to stave off his hunger, picked up an apple core discarded on the side of the road. A Kajima supervisor saw this and beat him to death on the spot.'"

Saparmurat Niyazov - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First evil person to have the dubious pleasure of appearing on this blog is Saparmurat Niyazov, the ruler of Turkmenistan.

He sounds rather cute, but he is not, he is pure evil! Eeeeviiiil!

From Wikipedia:

Saparmurat Niyazov - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Niyazov is an authoritarian leader and is known for his massive personality cult. Believing Turkmenistan to be a nation devoid of a national identity, he has attempted to rebuild the country in his own image. He renamed the town of Krasnovodsk, on the Caspian Sea, Turkmenbashi after himself, in addition to renaming several schools, airports and even a meteorite after himself and his immediate family. His face appears on all Manat banknotes and large portraits of the President hang all over the country, especially on major public buildings and avenues, and statues of himself and his mother are scattered all over Turkmenistan. The statues include one in the middle of the Kara Kum desert, and a gold-plated statue atop Ashgabat's largest building, the Neutrality Arch, that rotates to face the sun. Niyazov has commissioned a massive palace in Ashgabat commemorating his rule. 'I'm personally against seeing my pictures and statues in the streets - but it's what the people want.', Niyazov said."

Hello and welcome!

My plan with this blog is to keep a record of all the Evil people of the world, so you won't have to! You can go on being happy, playing with your pet or children, and wistling, and I will do the bitching and complaining for you. Pretty sweet deal!

If you have any suggestions for people I should track, like Hitler, Bush, your junior high gym teacher or an evil african dictator, please leave a comment, and I will certainly do my best. I will also try to lift them (yes, as in find them, grab them, and lift them off the ground, and put them down very gently again) if the bastard is still alive when I get around to it. I will also present them with the "You are evil!"-diploma.

In time I will add a few games for your enjoyment and stress relief. Something in the lines of "Smack the Evil out of ... with a dildo"-game. So stay tuned.

Eeeeeviiiiil.
